Visibility is currently around 5-10 ft, based on the latest Scripps Pier camera image. Only the nearest structure at 4 ft is visible with any clarity. The middle and back pilings are obscured by suspended particles and haze.
This level of clarity lines up with 2-3 days of building swell and wind stirring up bottom sediment, combined with moderate phytoplankton levels reducing clarity. Surface conditions appear choppy with persistent onshore flow, which is limiting visibility from reaching its full potential.
If visibility pushes into the 10-15 ft range, conditions would likely improve into the C+ range. For now, today earns a solid D+ rating — limited visibility with only near-field structures visible, challenging conditions for most divers.
Early morning conditions were typically best before wind and surface chop increased through the day.
