Visibility is currently around 8-12 ft, based on the latest Scripps Pier camera image. Only the nearest piling at 4 ft is clearly visible, while the middle piling at 11 ft appears soft and hazy. The back piling is not visible.
This level of clarity lines up with recent small swell and moderate wind chop stirring up sediment, combined with elevated chlorophyll from early spring plankton bloom. Surface conditions appear bumpy with surface texture, which is limiting visibility from reaching its full potential.
If visibility pushes into the 15-20 ft range, conditions would likely improve into the B range. For now, today earns a solid C- rating — marginal visibility with soft focus on distant structures, but still diveable for experienced divers.
Early morning conditions were typically best before wind and surface chop increased through the day.
Estimated Visibility: 8-12 ft
