March 6, 2026 / Grade: D
Visibility is currently around 5 ft, based on the latest Scripps Pier camera image.
The nearest piling at 4 ft is visible as a dark silhouette on the right edge of the frame, though lacking sharp definition. The middle piling at 11 ft appears as a faint, ghostly outline blending with the surrounding green water. The back piling at 14 ft is completely obscured by turbidity and not visible.
The water displays a distinct green to aqua-green hue throughout the column, transitioning from lighter emerald in the upper left to darker forest green on the right. Significant haze and backscatter give the water a milky, cloudy appearance with suspended sediment and organic particles visible drifting throughout. This coloration suggests a plankton bloom or recent upwelling event bringing nutrient-rich water to the surface.
Bad day for diving!
Estimated Visibility: 10–12 ft
